BUSRide Magazine: What's Up with Online Brokers
By March of 2006, Greer had signed 340 charter bus companies to BusRates.com, one phone call at a time. For the first time, BusRates would appear in a charter bus industry trade publication by explaining their mission to warn customers of unscrupulous bus brokers. (Greer wrote the rough draft article, then PR specialist, Kathryn Eber proofread and edited the article for submission to BUSRide, who then further edited the article before it was published.)
Greer received about a dozen emails from bus companies who praised the article and requested to sign up including the Greyhound and Coach America corporate offices. After the article was published, trade magazines and newspapers began a debate on unscrupulous bus brokers. On June 15, 2006, the Bus and Motorcoach News published a front page article titled "Bus brokers: Parasites or expanding business? Operator debate grows". On July 15, 2006 the front page article was "Operators seek ways to cope with brokers". The January 1, 2007, front page stated "Operators plan to challenge bus brokers with co-op.". The Founder of The Bus Co-Op, Neil Eisenberg asked Greer to run the co-op, but time was already at a premium running BusRates and the Co-Op never took off.
Throughout early 2007, publications included long rants from actual bus brokers, and angry testimonies from bus owners as well as additional quotes and statements from Greer.
